As part of our commitment to scaling recognition and support for socially engaged arts, the Alliance has commissioned a comprehensive study of the ecosystem across the Council of Europe area. This research will explore the diversity of practices driving social change, cohesion, and citizen-led action, and generate insights that will:
- Deepen understanding of the challenges and needs the sector is facing
- Increase visibility of socially engaged arts within and beyond the cultural field
- Shape future support and policies so the sector can thrive
We want this research to be a platform for the sector – a true representation of the diversity and impact of socially engaged arts organisations. Every voice counts, and we want to reach as many organisations as possible across the Council of Europe area. To this end we are running a survey through which we aim to gain a deeper understanding of what socially engaged arts constitute in different European contexts, as well as their impact, challenges, needs and future-shaping trends.
Take the 15-minute survey to tell us about your organisation and experience of working through socially engaged methodologies. The survey will remain open until 20 January 2025. Your contribution will give us the insight we need to lay the ground for a better understanding of the field.
We’re hosting two interactive webinars where you can hear preliminary findings and help shape the insights:
22 January 2026, 10:00–12:00 CET

We are proud to partner with The Field Società Cooperativa, Fondazione Santagata per l’Economia della Cultura, and KEA European Affairs, who are conducting this research on our behalf. The findings will be published as a report in 2026, so stay tuned for updates.
